Parent Network of Western New York, Inc.

Straight Talk

“Parent Network requests $120,000 over three years to provide families and community members with accurate and concise information regarding changes in services for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The NYS Office for People with Developmental (OPWDD) is rapidly distributing information that will alter how services are coordinated under a Managed Care system. The goal of Managed Care is to provide better supports for people with ID that are tailored to their needs.

The primary intent of Straight Talk is to take the complex information and convert it into manageable, family-friendly language. Parent Network will also provide this information to its community partners (schools, service providers, community based organizations) who often don’t have up-to-date information and work with individuals receiving services. Parent Network will work with experts in the field to track key changes in healthcare and services for individuals with intellectual disabilities.”
