Falmouth Public Schools

Calmer Choice

“Falmouth Public Schools will implement the Calmer Choice mindfulness curriculum district wide. The implementation will expose all students in grades three and four (30 classrooms) to the Calmer Choice program.

Calmer Choice’s program is a universal prevention program that teaches young students how to effectively and safely manage stress and resolve conflict. The goal of the program is to provide skills that diminish the risk of violence, substance abuse, and other self-destructive behaviors. The program consists of 16 lessons that are each twenty minutes in length. Lessons are delivered in the classroom twice a week over an eight-week period.

Teachers will first learn mindfulness through observing Calmer Choice instructors deliver the lessons to students. In addition, teachers will receive separate training by Calmer Choice staff so that they have a better understanding of the benefits of mindfulness practices, both for themselves as well as for their students.”
