Expanding Lackawanna Leaders Program

“Compeer has been piloting a school-based program at the Lackawanna Middle School, serving students with behavioral and mental health challenges. This program uses two full-time AmeriCorps members as the key resource for students during free periods like lunchtime and study hall, delivering the evidence-based Positive Action curriculum. Compeer saw some very strong results from this program’s first year, including students and teachers reporting better management of emotions and behaviors and improvements in school attendance.

With Tower Foundation funds, Compeer will expand the Lackawanna Leaders program into grades nine and ten in the Lackawanna High School over a two-year period. Through this program, Compeer hired and supervised AmeriCorps members will provide in-school supports to students with mental health challenges.”
